About This Property
A Treehouse
in the
Canopy
Io Kualua is an architectural statement in Kona: Balinese-style pavilions arranged around an infinity-edge saltwater pool, set high in the mango canopy above Kailua-Kona.
Lava rock walls set the stage for the arrival, leading to an Asian-inspired colonnade entry. Inside, the living pavilions open fully to the pool, which cascades over a stone temple wall. The pool has been newly waterproofed with a five-year manufacturer and labor warranty, and the pool deck flows onto new wood decking made for entertaining.
The residence pairs a chef’s kitchen and generous gathering spaces with two detached upper-level bedroom suites, each with a full bath and sharing a dedicated laundry. A spacious downstairs bedroom with its own private entrance welcomes visiting friends and family, and there is an additional guest suite with a private entry, an air-conditioned lower media room, an expansive workshop, and parking for up to five vehicles.
Every detail reflects rare craftsmanship: a French copper roof and gutters, redwood siding, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, and handcrafted mahogany pocket doors, windows, built-in beds, wardrobes, and cabinetry, with granite surfaces throughout. It was the final project of acclaimed architect Robert Nespor, and it was meticulously renovated between 2020 and 2023.
Beyond the architecture, the land flourishes. A vibrant orchard produces mango, lychee, two varieties of avocado, Meyer lemon, Tahitian lime, pineapple, and a wide array of tropical fruit.
