Mauna Lani
Discerning home buyers seek out property in Mauna Lani Resort as much for its luxury properties as they do for its privacy and rich cultural heritage.
Encompassing 3,200 acres of shoreline along the Kohala Coast, there is a grace and serenity – a sense that this place is special. Indeed, King Kamehameha the Great had a beachside village here and in days gone by the area was frequented by Hawaiian royalty. At the center of this area you’ll find the Fishponds of Kalahuipua’a, centuries old ponds that formed an efficient way to raise and harvest fish for royalty. Today these fishponds are meticulously maintained by the Resort, as is the nearby petroglyph park that features miles of trails to explore these ancient wonders.
Located 23 miles north of Kona, this community is home to two award-winning resorts: Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows and the Fairmont Orchid, as well as two excellent golf courses, the Frances H. I’I Brown North and South golf courses. The Shops at Mauna Lani – an upscale shopping center in the Resort, features a robust supermarket, several fine dining restaurants, and boutiques. You’ll also find cultural events here throughout the year, such as the Big Island Film Festival and the Taste of Mauna Lani.
There are 17 different subdivisions within the Resort – offering different housing options for a variety of budgets. The Fairways is probably the most affordable of the 17, with prices starting in the $500,000s. Several of the Resort’s communities, including the Fairways, the Villages, Golf Villas, Mauna Lani Terrace and the Islands allow for using your property as a vacation rental, thereby recouping some of your investment cost.
The Resort contains the only new construction of residential properties currently occurring along the Kohala Coast. KaMilo, Kulalani, and the Residences at Laulea are all in different phases of development. Kulalani is the most affordable of the three offering two and three-bedroom condos for under $1 million. KaMilo offers paired homes and detached single-family homes in the $ 800,000 to $2 million range while Laulea properties start at $1.9 million and run upwards to $4 million.
If you’re looking to purchase a luxury estate, 49 Black Sand Beach, Pauoa Beach and Ke Kailani have a variety of exquisite homes for sale – many with ocean views in the $2 to $12 million range.
The benefits of living in this area include access to the private Beach Club with its white sand beach and oceanfront restaurant and the Spa and Fitness Center. Property owners are also eligible to join the exclusive resort Advantage Club, which provides generous discounts on golf, dining, and spa services.
